Chute 212!!!

From MuggleNet:
Chute 212 is an upcoming Harry Potter conference taking place at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Northern California from July 2-6, 2014. This conference will be set inside the center's very own wizarding village, complete with storefronts, alleyways, and gardens aplenty. During Chute 212 the village will be packed with artisans, musicians, magicians, performers of all types, special guests, teachers, close friends, and YOU!

From the press release:

"Chute 212 is a new and innovative literary and create-play conference coming to the Santa Clara Convention Center. A celebration of the wizarding world in all its incantations, Chute 212 is the first of its kind to blend the environmental, theatrical world of a fair, with the literary, musical community of a convention. Combining traditional panels and workshops with fan created programming and cosplay, attendees can invoke their favorite wizard or witch, enjoy live music and magic acts, shop for unique and handmade products, create a potion or join in a game of Quidditch."

An exciting facet of Chute 212 will be its emphasis on "Create-play," an opportunity for all attendees to create and then embody their own wizarding character, from name to backstory and even clothing, resulting in that character's induction as a town citizen for all festivities. The huge emphasis on theater and hands-on creativity distinguishes Chute 212 from other conventions one may find.

A Harry Potter convention, finally near me. A five day event with a setup that sounds like a Ren Faire. In which we are encouraged to walk around as our own Potterverse characters.
How much did I want this, and why am I only hearing about this now?

"I have... finally found you, Miss Granger."

So, I was browsing amazon looking for books about mermaids, and this happened. Sort of an idea for a story, and I had to sketch it out.
Hermione was supposed to study and/or help a mermaid shoal (somewhere warm, not England), but she gets transformed by the mermaids - to save her life or as a curse. And enchanted, she can't tap into the magic she had as a witch, so she can't apparate back to get help. The mermaid shoal had migrated by the time she found them, and so her coworkers the Department of Magical Creatures can't find her. To avoid being seen by muggles, she follows the shoal.
Getting her back to her human form wouldn't be easy, either.

I was listening to this on repeat while sketching. It's lovely.

And although it wasn't my prompt, I love it like it was. It's a really fun read, and involves taxicabs, a wild chase, and the loss of clothing... and hexes!

Here it is, so go read!

I've been away disappeared for awhile from LJ, which is not really new. Except this time I haven't kept up with my friends page, so I feel out of the loop. I just right clicked corrected my attempt at spelling "disappeared" to "dissipated". I have not dissipated. I will try to catch up here and there and

I am biting my nails hoping my Exchangee likes my gift.

Oh hey, they've been changing things on LJ.

Here is Hermione. I can see some resemblance to Emma Watson, which wasn't entirely intentional.
This is a simpler sketch, but it took me twice as long as the Snape one. I don't think her facial features where described in the book, apart from her large front teeth, which where corrected, and brown eyes. Then there is her characteristic bushy hair.

The Potions Master. I did this in graphite, and it still ended up quite dark. A very messy study of facial features. Might do a simpler three-quarter view or side view to decide how far I want his nose to protrude.

And I am jumping in my seat!

My immediate feels: The ideas! And the-the... Where do I start? And the Ideas! And I will need to collect reference to get this just right! And I haven't done something like this before, and I already know which one I want to do! And it will be a challenge! Okay, breathe- you have time to plan this out...

I think I will start by doodling them just to get the feel of the relationship before I start on my prompt. And I will want to do thumbnails after that to start thinking of the composition and to get it just right, and... okay, I need to get organized and make a list. Because lists help people get organized and I need to make a list and just... squee! And Eep! It's a little bit intimidating! But exiting! So many exclamation points!

Not-so-immediate feels: The person I will be drawing for also has some great fic prompts... Maybe if I have time I can try my hand at a drabble for one of them, as an extra? Feeling a little bit of apprehension along with the excitement.

My comment did not go through that day, so the lovely Exchange mods posted up my prompts (Yay!). Currently mine is the last post on page 8, but I'm re-posting here for the convenience of whoever is writing/creating art for me.

Unto the prompts!Collapse )
